The Wise Dog
One day a wise dog passed by a large gathering of cats. He saw the cats were very intent upon their own business and did not see him, so he stopped.
In the middle of the cats, a large cat spoke. "Brethren, pray hard, all of you. And when you have prayed again and yet again, without doubting, truly praying, then, our fondest desires will be fulfilled and it shall rain mice."
When the dog heard this, he couldn't refrain from laughing and he turned and ambled away, speaking to himself, saying, "Oh, those cats are truly blind and foolish. Is it not known for certain and by my father before me that after hard prayer and great faith and earnest supplication it rains not mice but fat, meaty, and juicy bones?"
